“It’s absolutely a great way to encourage people to trade with Edinburgh."
Councillor Jenny Dawe, Leader of Edinburgh City Council
Ten identical yachts, representing global destinations and brands, are raced around the world on an eleven-month 40,000-mile route with 15 ports of call in major international markets on six continents.
The race is divided in to a series of eight legs and 15 individual races in total and, just like in Formula 1, points are awarded at the end of each race, building towards a championship total. It means that you can put a poor result behind you and head to the start of the next race with the possibility of gaining maximum points as you lead the field in.
To launch the ninth edition of the Clipper Race in a memorable way and to meet crew and sponsor demands we haveinvested in 12 new 70 foot yachts, the world’s newest and largest identically matched ocean racing fleet.
The third generation of Clipper ocean racing yachts will take the iconic race to a new level. The 12-strong fleet of bigger and faster new boats is being built in Qingdao, China. The build is progressing on target and that the new yachts will serve in the next four editions of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, taking the race to at least 2020. MORE>
